SOHR: Protests In Syria’s Sere Kaniye Call Murder Of Child Be Prosecuted

Hundreds of people in the Turkish-occupied city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in northeast Syria called murders of Yassin Mahmoud to be prosecuted.

Protesters, who organized demonstration in the Mahatta neighborhood up to al-Joza Roundabout of the city accompanied by Yasin’s teachers and fellows, chanted slogans calling perpetrators to be held accountable.

The Iraqi child Yassin Mahmoud was kidnapped, raped and then killed by the Turkish-backed Soqour al-Shamal faction.

In line with that, another demonstration was organized in the town of Suluk in north of Raqqa in which banners read perpetrators of the crime face “justice.”

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), Mustafa Salamah, from the city of Soran in north of Hama Governorate in central Syria, perpetrated the crime.

The incident caused wide spread anger and discontent by activists on social media outlets against the “appalling” crime calling “justice” be served against “criminals” while others called for the exit of militants of the opposition from the region due to the increasing robberies, looting, burglary and infighting.

Reports said the deceased family rejects to bury him before justice is being served.

In October 2019, Turkish forces, with the support of the SNA factions, launched the military operation “Peace Spring” against the cities of Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad under the pretext of pushing the fighters of the Kurdish-majority Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) away from the Turkish border with Syria.

As a result, they seized many lands in the abovementioned cities and displaced approximately 300.000 civilians, human rights reports said.

The Turkish-occupied areas in north and northeastern Syria continue to witness a state of security chaos and instability amid the SNA factions’ inability to maintain the security.
