Daraa security chaos incidents | Nearly 20 people killed in 20 attacks since early September 2022

Violence and insecurity chaos in Daraa province, which is under the control of regime forces, has dramatically escalated and continued in an upward trend, with attacks, shooting, and explosions occurring almost daily, directly targeting civilians, regime personnel and collaborators with regime security services.

The Syrian Observatory has documented 20 incidents of security chaos in Daraa province, which left 19 deaths, and they are:

• Nine civilians.

• Seven regime military personnel, members with settled-status and “collaborators” with security services.

• An ex-fighter who did not join any military formation, after striking a reconciliation deal.

• Two ex-ISIS members.

The Syrian Observatory has monitored and tracked the circumstances of the assassinations and attacks that have taken place in Daraa since early September. The details of these attacks are summarised as follows:

• September 2: A civilian was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Tafas city in western Daraa countryside.

• September 5: A former member of anti-regime factions was killed in clashes with military security personnel in Al-Yadouda town in western Daraa countryside.

• September 6: A young man, from Tel Shihab town, was found dead near Maasarat Al-Shammari on Al-Muzayrib- Al-Ash’ari road near Tafas town in the western countryside of Daraa. The young man is accused of “working for ISIS.”

• September 6: People found the body of an unidentified man with gunshot wounds on Damascus-Daraa highway near Al-Ghariyah Al-Gharbiyah junction.

• September 7: A young man was killed after being targeted with machine guns by unidentified gunmen in Al-Muzayrib town in western Daraa countryside. The dead man is accused of “working for ISIS.”

• September 9: A drug dealer was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Basr Al-Harir town in Daraa countryside.

• September 9: A civilian was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Jassim city in northern Daraa countryside.

• September 9: Two civilians were killed after being hit with machineguns fired by unidentified gunmen at a wedding party in Nawa city in western Daraa countryside.

• September 12: a regime lieutenant was killed when a military vehicle of Military Security Branch was hit by IED explosion in Al-Muzayrib town in western countryside of Daraa.

• September 14: A former member of the local factions who had reconciled with the Syrian regime was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Al-Musafrah village in eastern Daraa countryside. The dead man is accused of “collaborating with regime security services.”

• September 14: Two young men were found dead near Kharab Al-Shahm town in the western countryside of Daraa. According to sources, the two young men were engaged in drug trafficking with the help of the 4th Division.

• September 14: A teacher was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Al-Sanamayn city in northern Daraa countryside.

• September 15: A civilian was found dead in an abandoned battalion of regime forces near A’lma town in eastern Daraa countryside.

• September 15: Two collaborators with Military Security branch and a Military Security personnel were killed by unidentified gunmen in Al-Sanamayn town in the northern countryside of Daraa.

• September 16: Abd Al-Razzaq Qasim Al-Masri, the father of a former leader of the local factions in Daraa and ex-commander of “Liwaa Al-Mu’tazz Billah” faction, was found dead in his house in Ataman town to the north of Daraa city.

Since early 2022, the number of attacks documented by SOHR in Daraa province has risen to 385, which left 326 people dead; and they are as follows:

• 156 civilians, including four women and five children.

• 134 regime military personnel, “collaborators” with security services and members with settled-status working for regime services and backed militias.

• 21 former fighters who did not join any military formation, after striking reconciliation deals.

• Four ex-ISIS members.

• Seven unidentified people.

• Four militiamen of the Russian-backed 5th Corps.
