ISIS revenge campaign | 30 people killed and injured in 16 attacks in SDF-held areas

Since the launch of the security campaign “Operation Humanitarian and Security,” by Internal Security Forces (Asayish) with the support of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and International Coalition forces with the aim of pursuing and eliminating ISIS cells in Al-Hawl camp, south-east of Al-Hasakah, on August 25, ISIS has stepped up its attacks in areas controlled by “Autonomous Administration” of North and North-East Syria.

ISIS waged the first retaliatory operation on August 27 and has since managed to carry out 16 attacks till now, all documented by Syrian Observatory for Human Rights activists.

According to SOHR statistics, ISIS killed 17 people from August 27 to September 19, and they are as follows:

• Three civilians, including a child.

• 14 members of SDF and other military formations operating in areas controlled by Autonomous Administration.

These attacks also left 11 SDF fighter injured.

ISIS retaliatory operations are distributed regionally as follows:

• Deir Ezzor: 14 attacks.

• Al-Hasakah: An attack.

• Al-Raqqah: one attack.

The Syrian Observatory has documented ISIS revenge attacks from August 27 to September 19. The details of these attacks are summarised as follows:

• August 27: An SDF member was shot dead by ISIS gunmen in Al-Sour town in northern Deir Ezzor countryside.

• August 28: A child was shot dead by ISIS cells in Al-Hariji village in northern Deir Ezzor countryside.

• August 28: Three SDF members were injured in an armed attack waged by ISIS militiamen on an SDF military vehicle on Al-Shaddadi- Markadah road in southern Al-Hasakah countryside.

• August 29: A civilian was shot dead by ISIS cells in Ghranij village of Al-Sha’aitat district in eastern Deir Ezzor countryside.

• August 30: ISIS armed group waged an attack on an SDF military post at Al-Zer village water station in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

• August 30: An employee of an “Autonomous Administration” court was killed by ISIS cells in Hamar Al-Ali village in western Deir Ezzor countryside.

• September 2: The body of an SDF member was found with gunshot wounds to the head, dumped near a landfill site north of Al-Raqqah after being shot dead by ISIS members.

• September 3: Two SDF members were injured in ISIS armed attack on Jazarat Al-Buhamid village in western countryside of Deir Ezzor.

• September 11: one SDF member was killed and another injured, after being shot by ISIS cells in Al-Jazarah village in western Deir Ezzor countryside.

• September 11: ISIS members executed six SDF members after abducting them near Ruwayshed village in northern Deir Ezzor countryside.

• September 14: An SDF member was killed in an attack by ISIS cells on a checkpoint in Abrihah village in eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

• September 15: An SDF member was killed when ISIS members targeted a water tanker in Al-Zer area in Deir Ezzor countryside.

• September 16: An SDF member was shot dead by ISIS cells on Al-Mutairi village road in eastern Deir Ezzor countryside.

• September 17: An SDF member was shot dead by gunmen, believed to be ISIS members, in Harizah village in northern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

• September 18: SDF checkpoint came under RPG attack by ISIS gunmen in Al-Wahid village in northern Deir Ezzor countryside.

• September 19: ISIS cell opened fire at two men, leaving an SDF member dead and another man injured in Jazarah Al-Melaj in western Deir Ezzor countryside.

SOHR has documented 136 operations carried out by ISIS, including armed attacks and explosions, in areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration since early 2022. According to SOHR statistics, these operations left 109 persons dead: 37 civilians, including a woman and a child, and 72 members of SDF, the Internal Security Forces and other military formations operating in areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration.

It is worth noting that these attacks have not included the operation of Ghuwayran prison, which left heavy losses.
