Security chaos in regime-held areas | Head of municipality shot in leg in Latakia countryside

Latakia province: SOHR activists have reported that an armed man has stormed the municipality building of Al-Fakhoura in Latakia countryside and opened fire at the head of the municipality. The head sustained gunshot wounds to the leg.

The head of the municipality has been taken to hospital for treatment.

According to SOHR activists, the man shoot the head of the municipality over an old dispute that arose between the man and the head of the municipality, prompting the person to shoot him in an attempt to assassinate him.

On September 14, SOHR sources in regime-controlled areas reported that a man known by his initials as G. S. was found dead with gunshot wounds on his body in front of his house in Shuraytah project, near Latakia city centre. Uncertainty surrounded the circumstances of the death of the man, while it is not known yet if he killed himself, or was murdered.

 

On August 21, SOHR activists documented the death of an 18-year-old girl who threw herself from the fifth floor in the regime-controlled neighbourhood of Al-Ashrafiyah, near the specialized hospital in Aleppo city, due to “family disputes and psychological pressure.”

 

While on August 19, SOHR activists documented the death of a man in his fifties who jumped off Al-Rastan bridge in north Homs countryside which is under the control of the Syrian regime. The body of the man was transported to the Red Crescent Centre in Al-Rastan area. However, the reasons behind his suicide remained unknown.
