SOHR: IS Executes Two Civilians near SDF Base in Deir Ezzor

Islamic State (IS) members on Saturday executed a man and a woman in Deir Ezzor province, northeast of Syria, in an area located near a base of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that the jihadists shot the two civilians dead near al-Fadeen bridge in Tayyib al-Fal village in the northern countryside of Deir Ezzor for “practicing witchcraft and committing heresy.”

The assailants had left a slip of cardboard on the bodies of the victims with a note reading: “They practiced witchcraft,” SOHR added.

This comes amid a surge in the extremist group’s terrorist activities in northeast of Syria, particularly in Deir Ezzor province, where the Kurdish forces have recently carried out a number of securing operations against the Islamic State.

According to statistics recorded by the Britain-based monitoring group, the IS has carried out 141 terrorist activities, including armed attacks and explosions, in areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration since early 2022.

As a result of these attacks, 112 people, including 39 civilians, and 73 members of SDF, the Internal Security Forces and other armed forces, have been killed.
