Following demonstrations | General Education Committee of the “Autonomous Administration” denies imposing new curriculum

The General Education Committee for Schools in Deir Ezzor has confirmed that the curriculum provided by the “Autonomous Administration” to schools in Deir Ezzor includes only math and science.

The General Education Committee for Schools denied any intention to provide curriculums containing religious, scientific or historical violations to students of the area.

SOHR explained that the educational cadres and several Al-Shahil town residents participated in protests in eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, against the new curriculum by the “Autonomous Administration”, where those who participated in the protests issued a statement rejecting the educational curriculum considering it contrary to religion, believes and social traditions of the residents of the area.

According to SOHR activists, the issued statement also demanded an increase in the salaries of employees, demanded hiring school guards, secure job opportunities, provide logistic support to schools, activating workers’ law, activating the “Health Law” and disbursing salaries of agents for the past year.

On September 22, several male and female teachers participated in protest staged at Euphrates educational complex in Abu Hammam and Al-Kashkiyah towns in eastern Deir Ezzor countryside to express their rejection over the new educational curriculum developed by the “Autonomous Administration” in north-eastern Syria.

The protestors also demanded a monthly salary increase that is nearly 260,000 SYP, equivalent to only 57 USD.
