SOHR: SDF Captures Nine IS Members in Deir Ezzor

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Sunday that its units have captured nine members of the Islamic State (IS) in east of Deir Ezzor province, northeast of Syria.

SDF’s Coordination and Military Operations Center said in a statement that the special units captured the nine jihadists during operations carried out in al-Kassar, al-Tigayhi, and al-Zir in east of Deir Ezzor province.

During the military campaign, which was backed by the US-led Coalition forces, weapons, communication equipment and documents confirming their affiliation with the Islamic State were also seized.

Although the Islamic State was defeated on the ground in Syria in 2018, the militant group still continues to carry out terrorist activities in areas of northeast of the country.

The jihadists yesterday carried out an attack against the SDF in Deir Ezzor province, leaving one fighter killed and three others severely wounded.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed the report at the time and said that a number of insurgents had opened fire on a military patrol of the SDF in al-Kebar town in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor.

The injured were taken to the Raqqa hospital to receive medical treatment, SOHR noted on Saturday, without providing further details in this regard.
