SOHR: Three SDF Members Injured in IS Attack in Deir Ezzor

The Islamic State (IS) on Sunday carried out an attack against the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Deir Ezzor province, in northeast of Syria, leaving three SDF members injured.

The incident took place in al-Sor town in northern Deir Ezzor countryside where unidentified gunmen, believed to be IS militants, targeted a military vehicle of the SDF “carrying members and a commander of a regiment of SDF’s Deir Ezzor Military Council.”

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed the report and said that two of the injured were members of the Deir Ezzor Military Council and the third one belonged to the Internal Security Forces (Asayesh).

Elsewhere in the market of al-Khadra Sqaure in al-Jazara town in west of Deir Ezzor province, an IED explosion caused material damages, without resulting in any casualties, SOHR reported.

Although the Islamic State was announced “fully” defeated in Iraq in 2017 and in Syria a year later, the extremist group still continues to pose a serious threat to civilians and security forces in the region.
