ISIS’ old ordnance | Child killed by landmine explosion in Deir Ezzor countryside

Deir Ezzor province: SOHR activists have documented the death of a child by the explosion of an old landmine planted earlier by ISIS in Al-Bokamal countryside in Deir Ezzor, when playing with a toy-shaped metal object near an abandoned house on the outskirts of Al-Bokamal city.

It is worth noting that the victim is a displaced child from Al-Suwaya’yah town in Deir Ezzor countryside.

Accordingly, SOHR has documented the death of 184 civilians, including ten women and 94 children, due to explosions of old landmines, unexploded shells and bombs across Syria since early 2022. In addition, 265 civilians, including 16 women and 152 children, sustained various injuries in the same period. Among the total death toll, a man and his son were killed in the collapse of a war-damaged building in Darya city in Rif Dimashq, as well as the death of four civilians in the collapse of another building in Jubar neighbourhood.
