Aleppo | HTS enters Afrin city, while Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah withdraws to Azaz

Aleppo Governorate: HTS and Suleiman Shah faction managed to enter Afrin city in north-western Aleppo countryside and took control of Al-Mahmudiyah neighbourhood, without any clashes, following the withdrawal of Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah faction from it to Azaz. The rest of the factions remained neutral.

SOHR sources have also reported that Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah continues to withdraw from areas under the faction control in the other neighbourhoods of Afrin and Hayyat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) is expected to enter these areas.

It is worth noting that this is the first time HTS has entered Afrin since Turkish-backed factions took over Afrin in 2018.

On Thursday morning, violent clashes erupted between Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah faction and Al-Hamza Division faction in the outskirts of Al-Bab city in eastern Aleppo countryside.

These clashes erupted when Al-Hamza Division waged an attack on the area in order to regain control of its headquarters in Al-Bab city after the Division had been expelled from it a few days earlier.

During the clashes, shells rained down on the city and on the perimeter of the local council building in Al-Bazaa’ city in eastern Aleppo countryside, leaving civilians, including a womanm injured.

Meanwhile, clashes and trade fire with heavy machine guns took place after midnight yesterday, on the outskirts of Akhtarin area in the northern countryside of Aleppo, between Al-Hamza Division and Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah. However, no casualties have been reported so far.

Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah also brought military reinforcements to Afrin.

SOHR activists documented the death of an elderly woman of wounds she sustained yesterday, by indiscriminate gunfire and shrapnel fired during factional infighting, while she was working in her workplace in Qarzahil village in rural Afrin.
