Highest monthly death toll in 2022 | 50 people kill-ed in nearly 50 security chaos incidents in Daraa

Hardly a day or just a few hours pass without Daraa witnessing a new incident of security chaos that prevails throughout the cities, towns, and villages of Daraa province. These incidents of security chaos included crimes committed in various ways and forms, carried out by unidentified armed men, ISIS cells, or anti-regime armed groups.

 

As daily incidents of security disorder are documented across Daraa province, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has monitored noticeable deterioration of the security situation since early October. In this context, SOHR activists have documented 49 attacks in different areas throughout Daraa province in the period from October 1 to October 26. These attacks left 50 people dead; they are as follows:

• 17 civilians.

• 16 regime military personnel, “collaborators” with security services and members with settled-status working for regime services and backed militias.

• Ten former fighters who did not join any military formation, after striking reconciliation deals.

• Seven ISIS members.

Although October has not yet ended, this is the highest monthly death toll since early 2022 in Daraa province, according to SOHR statistics

 

Here are further details on the incidents of security chaos, documented in Daraa province in the past few days:

-October 1: Three attacks:

• A civilian was shot dead by unknown gunmen in the Yarmouk Basin area in west Daraa countryside. The victim worked in livestock trade and did not join any military formations.

• A man from Nawa city, accused of “collaborating with regime forces,” was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Tasil-Sahem Al-Golan road in the north-western countryside of Daraa.

• A member of the regime-backed 4th Division was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Al-Yadouda town in the north-west of Daraa.

-October 2: Three attacks:

• A non-commissioned officer of military intelligence service and an official responsible for security studies and investigations were injured in an armed attack by unknown gunmen in Ataman town in Daraa countryside.

• A decomposed body of an unknown person was found near Sheikh Maskin dam in the middle countryside of Daraa.

• A member of the regime’s “state security” branch was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the centre of Al-Harak city in east Daraa countryside.

-October 3: Four attacks

• An IED planted earlier by unidentified individuals exploded while a joint patrol of Russian and regime forces was passing in an area between Alma and Al-Sorah towns in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

• A regime soldier serving in Homs province was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle near Al-Rawdah mosque in Abta’ city in Daraa countryside.

• A former member of Jaysh Al-Islam faction was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Tasil town, west of Daraa.

• A young man died of the wounds he had sustained when he was shot by unidentified gunmen in Nawa city in the western countryside of Daraa.

-October 4: Seven attacks:

• A civilian was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in a neighbourhood in Daraa Al-Balad.

• A military security member, who was accused of “working for the Lebanese Hezbollah,” was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Jassim-Nawa road, north of Daraa.

• A member of the regime’s political security branch in Daraa was shot dead by unknown gunmen near Sayda town in eastern Daraa.

• A civilian from a Bedouin tribe was shot dead by unknown assailants on the main road in Al-Mulayha Al-Gharbiyah town in Al-Lajat area in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

• Unknown gunmen opened machinegun fire on a checkpoint of the air-force intelligence service in Al-Msifrah town in eastern Daraa, injuring several members stationed at the checkpoint.

• An ex-member of former Jabhat Al-Nusra, accused of “collaborating with regime forces,” was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Sahem Al-Golan town in western Daraa.

• A commander of a local faction in Daraa was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Tafas city in west Daraa countryside.

– October 6: Two attacks

• The body of a young man, handcuffed with signs of torture, was found on the road between the towns of Kahil-Al-Taybah in eastern Daraa countryside.

• Unidentified persons threw a grenade at the house of the 8th Brigade member in Maa’raba, east of Daraa.

– October 8: Two attacks:

 

• A young man was injured when he was shot by unidentified gunmen near Tafas hospital in western Daraa countryside.

• A regime military security member was killed and a lieutenant and a woman were seriously injured when unidentified gunmen targeted a military patrol carrying members of the Military Security Branch on Al-Dahiyah- Al-Yadouda road in western Daraa countryside.

– October 10: Two attacks

 

• A young man from Idlib living in Daraa was found dead under mysterious circumstances in northern plains of Al-Sanamayn city in northern Daraa countryside.

• Unidentified gunmen opened fire directly at a man accused of “drug trafficking” in Daraa.

• An ex-member of anti-regime factions was targeted by gunmen, believed to be members of a regime local security group on Al-Harak- Nahta road, east of Daraa.

– October 11: One attack

 

• A former member of the factions died of wounds he sustained on October 10, during clashes between two local factions and members of the regime’s military security forces in the plains surrounding Khirab Al-Shahm town in western Daraa countryside.

– October 12: Two attacks

 

• A decomposed body of a man from Al-Sheikh Maskin in north-western Daraa countryside was found in Al-Mazraa’ area west of Nassib town, on the Syria-Jordan border, in eastern Daraa countryside.

• A member of 4th Division was killed in his place of work in Al-Sanamayn in northern Daraa, when a gunshot fired by unknown gunmen hit his head.

– October 13: Two attacks

 

• A male nurse working in the national hospital was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on the road between Al-Muzayrib and Tafas in the western countryside of Daraa.

• A young man was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on the road between the Palestine camp and the dam road in Daraa.

– October 14: One attack:

 

• Four members of local factions and three ISIS members were killed in a security operation against ISIS cells in Jassim city.

 

– October 16: One attack

 

• Unidentified gunmen attempted to assassinate a civilian known by his initials as A’.H. in Al-Aliyah neighbourhood near Jassim town in northern Daraa countryside by shooting him directly, but he survived.

– October 16: Two attacks

• Unidentified gunmen shot dead a young man from Khirab Al-Shahm town in Daraa countryside while he was in Ain Zikr village in western Daraa countryside.

 

-October 17: Three attacks

• A regime soldier was killed, and two others, including a lieutenant, were injured in an IED attack on a vehicle on Nawa-Al-Jubailiyah road in western Daraa countryside.

• Three ISIS members were killed in a house explosion in Jassim city in northern Daraa countryside, after violent clashes with an ISIS cell.

• A man accused of “drug dealing,” “theft” and belonging to a “shabihah” gang west of Al-Sanamayn city in Daraa countryside was injured after being shot by unidentified gunmen.

 

– October 18: Three attacks

• Gunmen targeted a vehicle carrying an employee in the customs department at Nassib border crossing with Jordan near Naima, east of Daraa, but the man survived.

• A civilian accused of drug dealing was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in A’lmah town in eastern Daraa countryside.

• A drug dealer was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Tel Shehab town, west of Daraa.

 

– October 19: An attack

• A civilian accused of drug trafficking was killed by unidentified gunmen in Al-Harak in eastern Daraa countryside. It is worth noting that the dead man struck a settlement deal with regime, after being a member of anti-regime factions.

 

-October 20: Two attacks

• A member of local military security militias was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Al-Mansheyah district in Daraa.

• Gunmen of local groups that raided Jassim city killed civilians days after his arrest during an anti-ISIS campaign in search of ISIS cells in Jassim city. The civilian’s body was found dumped in Jassim square.

 

-October 22: One attack

• Two former faction members were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Al-Abbasiya neighbourhood in Daraa. It is worth noting that the two ex-rebels did not join any military formation after stuck reconciliation deals with regime forces.

 

– October 23: Two attacks

• A body of a man accused of “belonging to ISIS” was found dead with gunshot wounds near Tel Shihab roundabout in western Daraa countryside.

• Unidentified gunmen shot dead two brothers working for the 4th Division in Tel Shihab town in western Daraa countryside.

 

– October 24: Three attacks

• A young man nicknamed “Al-Saqr” was found dead in the southern neighbourhood in Al-Hara city in northern Daraa.

• A Teacher’s car was hit by an IED in Al-Sanamayn city, north of Daraa, causing material damage only.

• A member of a militia affiliated to the military security service was shot dead following a dispute which had erupted in Al-Manshiyah neighbourhood, near the area of the old customhouse in Daraa Al-Balad.

 

 

– October 25: Two attacks

• People identified the body of a civilian from Al-Quneitra, who was kidnapped, and his car was seized during the security operation in Jassim city in mid-October. The civilian’s body was dumped east of Tel Umm Horan between the cities of Nawa and Jassim in Daraa countryside. The dead man had links to the cell whose members had been eliminated in Jassim city, according to local sources.

• The body of a 16 years-old child accused of “belonging to ISIS” from Al-Jabaliyah village in Daraa countryside was found dumped on the outskirts of Nawa city in western Daraa countryside, with his hands tied behind his back and his body showing signs of brutal torture.

 

Since early 2022, the number of attacks documented by SOHR in Daraa province has risen to 453, which left 391 people dead; and they are as follows:

• 181 civilians, including four women and seven children.

• 154 regime military personnel, “collaborators” with security services, and members with settled-status working for regime services and backed militias.

• 33 former fighters who did not join any military formation, after striking reconciliation deals.

• 11 ex-ISIS members.

• Eight unidentified people.

• Four militiamen of the Russian-backed 5th Corps.
