Following disputes | Armed infighting erupts in Al-Rukban camp in the 55 kilometre de-confliction zone

SOHR activists have reported that an infighting erupted between residents of Al-Qarytain city inside Al-Rukban (forgotten) camp in the 55 kilometre de-confliction zone at the junction of borders between Syria, Jordan and Iraq following disputes that erupted to armed clashes, where one of them threw a hand grenade at the house of an activist from Al-Qarytain city. However, no casualties have been reported yet.

Nearly 8,500 people live in the camp and suffer harsh conditions, while humanitarian and human rights institutions failed to provide the basic life necessities for the people. Meanwhile, some families are leaving the camp towards regime-held areas without security guarantees.

On October 28, SOHR sources reported that four families from Palmyra city left Al-Rukban camp at the Syria-Jordan- Iraq border triangle to Palmyra city, which is controlled by regime forces and Iranian-backed militias, without guarantees protecting them from arbitrary arrests and oppression by regime security service. Those families risked their safety and lives to flee the dreadful living conditions in the camp.
