Deir Ezzor | Aircraft fly over areas dominated by Iranian-backed militias following attack on Coalition base

Deir Ezzor province: SOHR sources have reported seeing aircraft, mostly drones, believed to be to affiliated to the International Coalition, flying over Al-Mayadeen city, the “capital” of Iranian-backed militias in Deir Ezzor, Al-Asharah and Baqrus village since early morning. This comes a few hours after the attack which targeted the Coalition base with four missiles fired by Iranian-backed militias.

This morning, SOHR sources reported new details about the attack on the International Coalition largest base in Syria. Reliable SOHR sources confirmed that four missiles were fired from a military position of Iranian-backed militias near the industrial high school in Al-Mayadeen city, the “capital” of Iranian-backed militias in Deir Ezzor, targeting positions in the Coalition’s base in Al-Omar oil field.

Observatory sources also reported that Iranian-backed militias have put on high alert after the attack, where four-wheel drive vehicles (4×4) with heavy submachine guns and anti-aircraft guns installed over them arrived at a military centre near the paper plant in Al-Hesayniyah town in northern Deir Ezzor. It is worth noting that the paper plant is located nearly three kilometres away from Koniko gas field which hosts another base of the International Coalition.

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported that several missiles hit the area of Al-Omar oil field in Deir Ezzor countryside, which is the largest “International Coalition” base in Syria. However, no casualties were reported yet.

This coincided with mobilization of Iranian militias in their areas in eastern of Syria.

A few hours earlier, SOHR activists monitored security and military mobilization of the Iran-backed militias in the vicinity of Deir Ezzor city and their military positions in Al-Bo Kamal and Al-Mayadin all the way to Al-Raqqa, passing by their positions on the Desert Road adjacent to Euphrates River, in fear of attacks by ISIS cells in light of the weather conditions and fog.

The “International Coalition” and SDF conducted military exercises with live ammunition near the military base in Al-Omar oil field in Deir Ezzor countryside, which is the largest International Coalition headquarters in Syria, coinciding with the flight of warplanes and a helicopter over the region.

On November 9, Unidentified aircraft targeted the Syria-Iraq border in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, where trucks loaded with weapons and oil tanks of Iranian-backed militias in the customs square in Al-Hari and the military gate in Al-Bokamal countryside, east of Deir Ezzor were targeted.

Airstrikes also hit a military site of Iranian-backed militias near the area, leaving heavy casualties, as 14 people have been confirmed dead so far, mostly Iranian-backed militiamen.
