Alarming living crises | Turkish airstrikes on vital institutions and infrastructure affect civilians in Al-Hasakah countryside

Civilians in most of the areas in north-east Syria, especially in Al-Hasakah countryside, are struggling with disastrous situation due to the latest Turkish airstrikes which targeted vital institutions and infrastructure, including grain silos, power plants and oil fields, putting many of them out of service.

 

Al-Qamishli and Al-Malikiyah (Dayrik) cities have experienced total blackout, while some civilians are depending on power generations which are run by diesel. Ironically, the two cities are about to run out of diesel because the suspension of several oil fields which came under Turkish attack.

 

According to SOHR sources, the price of a gas cylinder has reached 50,000 SYP, when they are available. It is worth noting that a state-subsidised cylinder had sold for 3,500 SYP and for 18,000 SYP in duty free stores.

 

Moreover, those areas are struggling with acute lack of water in light of the suspension of water purification stations because of the interruption of electricity used for running turbines.

 

Inhabitants of the two cities, Al-Qamishli and Al-Malikiyah, have called for help and rehabilitating the vital facilities and institutions, so that situation will not be exacerbated further.

 

SOHR activists have confirmed that the Turkish attacks in the past few days have put many vital institutions and facilities out of services, including Al-Suwaidiyyah gas institution which provides Al-Hasakah province with household gas and electricity, power plants in Al-Qamishli, Al-Malikiyah and Al-Qahtaniyam, oil fields in Al-Qahtaniyah and Al-Jawadiyah, stations of gathering fuels in Al-Qamishli and Al-Qahtaniyah, Amuda power transmission stations and grain silos in Al-Qahtaniyah and Darbasiyah.

 

In the past few days, SOHR activists reported that strikes by Turkish drones targeted several oil fields and oil and power stations, including the following institutions:

 

  • Al-Oudi oil field in Al-Qahtaniyah countryside.

 

  • Dejlah oil station in the countryside of Al-Jawadiyah.

 

  • The gas station in Al-Suwaidiyah village in Al-Malikiyah countryside (Derek).

 

  • Ali Agha oil station in Al-Ya’rubiyah countryside.

 

  • An oil station in Ma’shuq village in Al-Qahtaniyah countryside.

 

  • Kil Hasnak station in Al-Qahtaniyah countryside.

 

  • A power transmission station near the Corona Hospital in Al-Qamishly.
