Amid silence by influential powers | Human rights activists condemn Turkish attacks in N and E Syria

The Social Justice Court in Al-Hasakah has issued a statement, denouncing the latest Turkish attacks on north and east Syria. Several lawyers and members of the Social Justice Court have expressed their condemnation of these attacks which aim at committing a genocide of the indigenous people of the attacked areas, calling for immediate intervention of influential powers in north and east Syria to put an end to those attacks.

This comes after Turkey has started large-scale attacks in different areas in north and east Syria, while the international community has taken no action or even condemned these attacks.

In an exclusive interview with SOHR a lawyer known by his initials as F. H. says, “this is not the first round of attacks to target north and east Syria, and it comes as a part of ongoing military operations by Turkey which seeks to wreak havoc and trigger panic among the region’s residents in order to force them to leave.” The human rights activists’ statement addresses the United Nations, particularly influential powers engaged in the Syrian conflict in this region, such as Russia and the USA, which have turned a blind eye to the aerial and ground attacks, especially the attacks which have targeted civilians. We call upon these powers, mainly Russia and the USA interfere and put an end to these attacks before they are expanded to other areas, as the continuity of these attacks leads to deteriorating the security situation and instability in the region further. This is against the region’s interests in general and does not serve the interests of any of the influential powers in Syria.”

Another lawyer known as B. M. has told SOHR that the fascist Turkey’s attacks continue in north and east Syria, while the international community continues its unjustified silence and inaction. She calls upon influential powers in this region to interfere immediately to stop these attacks which destabilise the region. The lawyer clarifies “these attacks target the region’s infrastructure and vital institutions, such as oil and gas centres and constructions, hospitals and schools. The institutions which have been targeted by Turkey serve the region’s inhabitants, but Turkey has been seeking to change the demography of the area and subvert the will of people in north and east Syria through the latest attacks.”

It is worth noting that Turkey started a round of large-scale attacks on November 19, targeting various positions in areas controlled by Syria Democratic Forces in north and east Syria. These attacks manifested mainly in violent airstrikes by Turkish drones and airstrikes.
