Putting heavy burden on poorest shoulders | Regime launches campaign against street vendors in Al-Mayadeen east of Deir Ezzor

Deir Ezzor province: Regime forces have carried out a campaign against “stalls’ vendors in Al-Mayadeen city, the capital of Iranian-backed militias in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, under the pretext of being illegal stalls.

SOHR activists have reported that the campaign was instructed by the district director, who patrolled the city markets and removed vendor “stalls’, igniting discontent because the Government of regime neglected the dire living conditions of civilians and increased the burden on them instead of finding solutions to alleviate their suffering and living crises.

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported that members of the 4th Division checkpoint on Al-Balaum roundabout in Al-Mayadeen city in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor have for nearly ten days continued to prevent trucks of goods loaded with clothes and shoes from entering Al-Mayadeen city, coinciding with winter, with the aim of monopolising its trade for a man working for the regime forces in Deir Ezzor.

According to SOHR sources, the 4th Division members earn nearly 30,000 USD per day, while 4th Divison members stationed at “Al-panorama” checkpoint in Deir Ezzor earn more than twice that amount, as they impose taxes and levies on civilians and traders in the city.
