Following de*ath of five people in clashes in Telbiseh | Education disrupted in the city’s schools over concerns of renewed clashes

Homs province: SOHR sources have reported that education and schooling have been disrupted in Telbiseh city in the northern countryside of Homs today following yesterday’s bloody clashes in the city, which left ten people dead and wounded.

 

Administration of primary schools in the city’s neighbourhoods have sent voice notes, via Whatsapp, to the families of students, informing them of the disruption of education and schooling over concerns of renewed clashes.

 

Speaking to SOHR, a teacher known by her initials as H. N. commented on the disastrous situation in Syria due to the deteriorating security situation. The teacher described the clashes as a “heinous crime” committed against civilians; let along the panic prevailed among the children because of the sound of explosions and exchange of gunfire. The teacher says, “a group of teachers refused to go to schools in Telbiseh city, fearing indiscriminate gunfire by the conflicting bodies, so they individually decided to disrupt education in the city’s schools.”

 

SOHR sources have reported the closure of most of the shops in Al-Karamah street and the northern neighbourhood in Telbiseh city over concerns of renewed clashes.

 

In this context, a shopkeeper known as M. K. has told SOHR that the families of fatalities have buried their beloved this morning in the city’s cemetery, amid exchange of threats to take revenge over their death, clarifying that these threats indicate to a potential expansion of clashes in the city.

 

Moreover, medical sources in the specialised hospital in Telbiseh city have confirmed the arrival of five people in the early hours of Thursday morning who were injured due to the violent clashes. Speaking to SOHR, a medical source, who has chosen not to reveal his identity in order to ensure anonymity, has confirmed that three injured people whose health conditions are critical have been transported to the hospital in Homs city, as they must undergone to surgeries that are not available in Telbiseh’s specialised hospital.

 

It is worth noting that violent clashes erupted yesterday in Telbiseh city between a group, headed by “Mohamed Khalil Al-Duray’i, aka “Abu Junaid,” and “Al-Aswad” family, where the two sides used grenades and RPGs. The clashes followed the assassination of “Abu Juniad” who was a prominent drug dealer and “collaborator” with the Lebanese Hezbollah on Tuesday.
