Fuel crisis | Landline telephone and internet services interrupted in Homs

Homs province: SOHR sources have reported interruption of landline telephone and internet services in several neighbourhoods and cities throughout Homs province for the third consecutive day, along with growing public anger.

The lack of diesel allowances used to operate power generations producing electricity in post offices in Al-Meshrifah and Eyoun Hassan towns, the cities of Al-Rastan and Talbiseh and the neighbourhoods of Akramah, Wadi Al-Zahab and Al-Mal’ab resulted in the interruption of hundreds of internet platforms.

The interruption of those services has coincided with deteriorating service of mobile networks (Syriatel and MTN) because of the bad weather, especially since most of telecommunication towers are run by solar energy.

Speaking to SOHR, an engineer known by his initials as A. M. working in the post office in Al-Ghouta neighbourhood says that the telecommunication Syrian institution has failed to secure diesel required to operate power generations. The man has confirmed that the reported circulated on social media about a technical malfunction in the post office are completely untrue.

It is worth noting that the Syrian regime’s Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources, Bassam To’me, had announced a stifling fuel crisis for over 40 days, which forced many governmental institutions to adopt austerity measures regarding their daily consumption of fuel until the end of the crisis.
