Child abandonment | Residents of Al-Hasakah find newborn baby

Al-Hasakah province: The residents have found an hour-old newborn child, whose relatives abandoned him for unknown reasons.

The baby has been found dumped on the pavement of Hawass street in Al-Salhiyah neighbourhood in the SDF-controlled areas of Al-Hasakah city.

The baby has been transferred to Al-Hikma hospital and handed over to the Women’s Authority of Autonomous Administration to take care of him.

According to SOHR statistics, this is the 34th case of abandoned new-born babies since early 2022 with 22 cases documented in regime-controlled areas and 12 documented in SDF-controlled areas.

On November 24, SOHR activists reported that residents found a newborn baby who was abandoned for unknown reasons and dumbed on the road in Ayed area in Al-Tabaka countryside western of Al-Raqqa within SDF-held areas.

This came in light of the growing phenomenon of child abandonment across Syria for different reasons.

On November 21, SOHR sources reported that a baby boy was found dead in a dumpster in the industrial area in Al-Qamishli city centre in Al-Hasakah countryside.
