Sieged two months ago | 15 diesel tankers enter Al-Ashrafieh, Al-Sheikh Maqsoud and areas in rural Aleppo

Aleppo province: Syrian Observatory activists have reported seeing the entry of tankers loaded with diesel into Al-Ashrafieh and Al-Sheikh Maqsoud neighbourhoods in northern countryside of Aleppo, which houses nearly 300,000 displaced people from Afrin.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, naerly 15 diesel-laden tankers entered the camps in northern Aleppo countryside, distributed under the supervision of local councils in the area, to generator owners, bread bakeries, municipalities and water generators, to meet the needs of civilians.

The local council works to resolve the problem of power cuts to the northern villages and suburbs of Aleppo that are under the control of Kurdish forces and the Syrian regime.

According to local sources, councils have been promised electricity supply to the area today.

This came after a two-month suffocating siege imposed by the 4th Division on the northern countryside of Aleppo, Al-Ashrafieh and Al-Sheikh Maqsoud neighbourhoods.

On December 5, SOHR activists reported that the regime-backed 4th Division forces were still imposing a siege on Al-Ashrafiyah and Al-Shaikh Maksoud neighbourhoods and Al-Shuhabaa areas in northern Aleppo countryside by preventing the entry of fuels to the area for the second consecutive month, making it likely for a crisis to take place.

According to reliable SOHR sources, the area run out of diesel and gasoline following the siege of the 4th Division, causing consequences on most life aspects, where most schools in Al-Shuhabaa areas in northern Aleppo countryside were suspended amid appeals by the residents to find an immediate solution and to lift the siege off the area after the fate of their children became threatened.

Moreover, most workshops, service centres and transportation were suspended in villages of Al-Shuhabaa areas, and work in most service institutions in the area was suspended, putting the economy of the area at risk, in light of the harsh conditions in the region.

According to local sources in the region, life nearly stopped in the region after power was cut off the area, confirming that the bakeries will be suspended as well in case the siege remains, appealing to the concerned authorities to work on lifting the siege off the region.

A day earlier, SOHR activists reported that the Internal Security Forces “Al-Asayesh” gave a period of 48 hours to the regime forces to lift the siege over neighbourhoods of Kurdish forces in Aleppo city “Al-Shaikh Maksoud” and “Al-Ashrafiyah”, and displaced people in northern Aleppo countryside, or else “Al-Asayesh” would impose siege on the security centres that belong to regime forces in Al-Hasakah and Damascus.

Residents of “Al-Shaikh Maksoud” and “Al-Ashrafiyah” neighbourhoods in Aleppo suffered harsh living conditions and several crises including the complete cut of power, because generators stopped operating.
