Crippling crises | Heating crisis persists in besieged Al-Ashrafieh and Al-Sheikh Maqsoud districts and northern Aleppo countryside despite bringing 15 diesel tankers

Aleppo province: Despite the entry of 15 diesel tanks into the northern countryside of Aleppo, in areas controlled by “Kurdish forces” and regime forces, the people in those areas continue to suffer because diesel material has not been distributed to all of them, as the diesel recently entered are insufficient for the residents.

The diesel has been distributed only to camps, generator owners and service centres, while, one third of the people in those areas remained without heating, with their prices rising on the black market.

The price of a litre of diesel on the black market amounted to 9,000 SYP which exceeds the purchasing power of civilians, while fir logs’ price exceeds 800,000 SYP per ton.

This comes in light of the continued blockade of the northern countryside of Aleppo by the regime’s “4th Division” led by Maher Al-Assad, brother of Syria’s president.

This morning, SOHR activists reported that regime forces, represented by the Fourth Division led by Maher Al-Assad, brother of the Syrian regime president, have recently intensified their deployment in the vicinity of Al-Ashrafieh and Al-Sheikh Maqsoud neighbourhoods and areas where displaced people from Afrin are located in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

The division has brought in a new security service and deployed nearly 13 new security checkpoints to dish the siege on the area.

According to SOHR sources, the checkpoints of the 4th Division prevent the entry of any kind of food, humanitarian aid and fuel. They also impose financial levies on civilians and confiscate money from civilians and merchants, where they have arrested ten persons found in possession of money.
