First half of December | 18 attacks leave ten people kil-led including four fighters and one accused of belonging to IS-IS

As incidents of security disorder are on the rise across Daraa province, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has monitored the noticeable deterioration of the security situation since early December.

In this context, SOHR activists have documented 20 attacks in different areas throughout Daraa province in the period from December 1 to December 15. These attacks left 13 people dead; they are as follows:

• Five civilians.

• Six fighters, including a colonel and a lieutenant.

• Two men accused of “belonging to ISIS.”

Here are further details on the incidents of security chaos, documented in Daraa province in the past few days:

• December 1: A pharmacist was shot dead in front of his house by unidentified gunmen in Jamla town in western Daraa countryside.

• December 1: A young man who works in an “electronics” store was injured when unidentified gunmen directly shot him in Al-Mazirib town in western Daraa countryside.

• December 2: Two people, including the elder of Al-Taybah town in the eastern countryside of Daraa, were shot dead by unknown gunmen on the “military road.”

• December 3: A civilian accused of “belonging to ISIS” died affected by the wounds he sustained when unidentified gunmen directly shot him in Bait Arah village in western Daraa countryside.

• December 4: A woman’s body was found killed with a sharp object by unidentified people on the international highway near the bridge leading to Dail city in Daraa countryside.

• December 6: SOHR activists reported that an explosion was heard in Jassim city in northern Daraa countryside, where unidentified people detonated a sound grenade in the centre of the city. However, no casualties or material damages were reported.

• December 7: Unidentified persons threw a grenade at the home of a civilian who did not belong to any military or security party, in Tsil town, west of Daraa, leaving no casualties.

• December 7: Unidentified persons opened fire at a military checkpoint of the regime forces in Al-Bahar neighbourhood and the post office building in Daraa Al-Balad. No casualties were reported.

• December 8: SOHR sources reported that unknown gunmen opened fire on a car, “Hilux” make, affiliated with the political security branch near Sheikh Saad village in western Daraa. However, no casualties or material damage were reported.

• December 9: SOHR sources reported that unknown gunmen exploded a shop in Tel Shehab town in the western countryside of Daraa for unknown reasons. The explosion caused considerable material damage, but no casualties have been reported. It is worth noting that the shop belongs to a civilian from Tel Shehab town

• December 9: SOHR sources reported that unknown gunmen opened fire on a man known by his initials as M. J. and nicknamed as “Al-Amriki” in Nawa city centre, where he sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.

• December 10: Unidentified gunmen shot dead two State Security soldiers from Homs province on Nimr-Samlin road in the northern countryside of Daraa.

• December 13: Unknown gunmen opened fire on a non-commissioned officer of the regime’s military intelligence service in Al-Jidour area between Inkhil city and Al-Qinnyah village in northern Daraa.

• December 13: The residents found the body of a civilian with signs of torture dumped in the vicinity of Al-Ghariyah Al-Sharqqiyah town in the eastern countryside of Daraa. However, the identity of the murderer and the motives for the crime remain unknown.

• December 13: Unidentified gunmen targeted a civilian’s home in Nahta village in the eastern countryside of Daraa, injuring a man invited to the house.

• December 14: Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a pharmacist from Maaraba village, where he was targeted in Hawd Al-Yarmok area in western countryside of Daraa, injuring him.

• December 15: An Imam of the mosque of Kafr Shams town in northern Daraa countryside, was assassinated by unidentified gunmen in front of his house in the town.

• December 15: A 23-year-old man sustained serious injuries in an armed attack by unknown gunmen on a motorcycle in Nahteh town. The man was taken to Bosra Al-Sham hospital, while the attackers escaped.

• December 16: The body of a man accused of “belonging to ISIS” showing signs of gunshots was found by residents in Nawa city in western Daraa countryside.

• December 16: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a colonel and his escort at the roundabout of Al-Sheikh Sa’ad, west of Daraa. It is worth noting that the officer receives the tank battalion of the regime forces of the 112th Brigade located in the vicinity of Nawa city.

 

Since early 2022, the number of attacks documented by SOHR in Daraa province has risen to 511, which left 472 people dead; and they are as follows:

• 213 civilians, including six women and 11 children.

• 170 regime military personnel, “collaborators” with security services and members with settled-status working for regime services and backed militias.

• 43 former fighters who did not join any military formation, after striking reconciliation deals.

• 32 ex-ISIS members and members accused of “belonging to ISIS cells.”

• Nine unidentified people.

• Five militiamen of the Russian-backed 5th Corps.
