At competitive price and quality | Ukrainian wheat and barley swamp markets in areas controlled by Autonomous Administration

SOHR sources have reported that wheat and barley “stolen” from Ukraine have swamped the markets in north and east Syria, after having been exported from Turkey to “Euphrates Shield” area and then to areas controlled by the Autonomous Administration. SOHR activists have reported seeing a large number of trucks carrying Ukrainian wheat and barley heading towards Manbij countryside in eastern Aleppo, after having crossed through Um Jeloud crossing from Turkey.

According to SOHR sources, over 200 trucks carrying Ukrainian wheat and barley arrive in SDF-controlled areas on a daily basis, where the trucks’ cargoes are distributed to markets and sold to farmers. Wheat is sold for 400 USD per ton, while the price of barley has reached 390 USD a ton. It is worth noting that wheat and barley are transported from Ukraine with the help of Russian and Turkish merchants, before having been delivered to north Syria region.

Farmers in north and east Syria are willingness to buy Ukrainian wheat and barley as the low domestic production of wheat and barley in the latest three seasons because of the poor rainfall.

It is also worth noting that Ukrainian wheat and barley is more profitable for farmers, although the Autonomous Administration imposes custom taxes reach 100 USD per ton, while the quality the Ukrainian wheat and barley is better than the Syrian.

According to SOHR sources, the Autonomous Administration has also bought large quantities of Ukrainian wheat and barley to store them in grain silos in order to distribute them later to bread bakeries and compensate for the lack of Syrian wheat and barley.
