Show campaign | Regime security services persecute dr*ug pus*hers, arresting nearly 35

SOHR sources have reported that the directorate of the criminal security in Syria started a new security campaign in early 2023 against drug pushers in areas under the control of the Syrian regime in several provinces, in coordination with the criminal security branches in Homs, Hama, Aleppo, Latakia, Damascus and Deir Ezzor.

According to SOHR sources, over 34 drug pushers have been arrested so far, while the campaign, which is designed to portray regime security services as counters of narcotics in regime-controlled areas, is still ongoing.

SOHR activists have confirmed that this campaign is just a new “play” and “farcical show” by the Syrian regime, as only drug pushers are targeted and arrests, and the criminal security directorate dare not prosecute prominent drug dealers, especially since these dealers work for Iranian-backed militias, namely the Lebanese Hezbollah.

It is worth noting that Mar’i Al-Ramthan, who is close to the Lebanese Hezbollah, is the most prominent drug dealer in Syria. The man had been arrested and detained for only five days, before he was releases after having paid 400,000 USD.

On December 21, SOHR sources reported that the military intelligence services of the regime released “Mari Ramthan,” the most prominent drug trafficker and smuggler who smuggle drugs from Jordan to the Gulf States, a collaborator with the Lebanese Hezbollah-backed militia in Al-Suwaydaa countryside, in exchange for a huge ransom. The drug trafficker was released after an arrest that lasted only five days.

This came after an official of Lebanese “Hezbollah” called “Ahmed Hajj” promised Mari Ramthan’s family that the drug trafficker would be released.
