Efforts to repel Israeli attacks | Iran to install Iranian-made air defence batteries around Damascus

Very reliable sources have informed SOHR that Iran works to install Iranian-made air defence batteries in Syria.

According to SOHR activists, air defence batteries will be installed at nearly three locations south and south-west of Damascus, and near Damascus International Airport.

Meanwhile, it is still unknown whether these batteries have actually arrived from Iran to Syria, or will arrive in the coming days.

This comes in light of repeated airstrikes by Israel that hit positions of Iranian-backed militia in Damascus and Rif Dimashq, amid the inability of the regime’s air defences to counter any Israeli attack.

On January 3, SOHR activists documented the killing of seven people, including three Syrians and four non-Syrian fighters, in Israeli strikes on Damascus International Airport and a warehouse around it.

In 2022, SOHR documented 32 airstrikes and ground rocket attacks, during which Israel targeted several positions in Syria, destroying nearly 91 targets, including buildings, warehouses, headquarters, centres, and vehicles. These strikes killed one civilian and 89 combatants and injured 121 others.
