Security chaos | Seven people kil-led in areas of Autonomous Administration in 2023

The Syrian Observatory has documented six murder crimes in SDF-controlled areas since early 2023, where domestic violence and armed robbery were behind some of these murders, while motivations behind the others remained unknown. These murders left eight civilian fatalities, including two women and a little girl; they are distributed regionally as follows:

• Deir Ezzor: Six civilians, including a woman.
• Al-Raqqah: Two civilians: a woman and a little girl.

The details are summarised as follows:

• January 7: A young employee of Al-Ma’amel (laboratories) area was shot dead in the chest by the brother of his wife in Jadid Bakara town eastern of Deir Ezzor within SDF-held areas, without knowing the reasons.

• January 14: Two unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire at a “Jeep” on the road in Ghranij town, east of Deir Ezzor, killing a man and his wife. The gunmen fled to an unknown destination. It is worth noting that the man and his wife are from Al-Haddadiyah village of Al-Shaddadi in Al-Hasakah countryside.
• On January 16: Two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle shot dead a civilian on a road in Al-Jaradhi Al-Sharqi town in Deir Ezzor countryside.
• On January 16: SOHR sources reported a murder in SDF-controlled areas, as thieves have killed a woman and her daughter in Al-Mukhtaltah neighbourhood in Al-Raqqah city. When she returned to her home, the mother, who was aged 25 and eight months pregnant, found the body of her eight-year old daughter, as the thieves strangled her to death, before they killed the mother too and escaped, according to SOHR sources.
• On January 18: A person was shot dead by unidentified gunmen inside his car due to an old vendetta in Mahimida town western of Deir Ezzor.
• On January 18: A civilian from Al-Kasra district was shot dead by unidentified gunmen for old vendetta in Zaghir Jazira town in western Deir Ezzor countryside.
