To blackmail their family | Security services arrest university students for “compulsory service”

Deir Ezzor province: Checkpoints of the military security and the 4th Division in Deir Ezzor blackmail young men passing by the checkpoints in Deir Ezzor, where young men are usually arrested to make them undergo “compulsory service”, while they demand ransoms from the families of the young men.

On the same context, the regime’s military police arrested a student from Al-Jora neighbourhood, while he was passing by the square of the State Security in Deir Ezzor after returning from the faculty of “Literature”. According to reliable SOHR sources, the young man had a certificate of postponement issued by the university, but the members of the checkpoint arrested him nonetheless and demanded his parents to bring 200,000 Syrian Liras to release him.

According to reliable SOHR sources, this is not the first case that young men are arrested at checkpoints of the security services and the 4th Division, as several checkpoints in regime-held areas in Deir Ezzor blackmail young men for money. These checkpoints include the checkpoint of Forat Al-Sham hotel on the western side of Deir Ezzor city, Al-Panorama checkpoint at the southern entrance of the city and the checkpoint of the military police, where the demanded ransom sometimes reach sometimes reach over a million Syrian Liras.
