Old ordnance | Child killed by projectile explosion in farmland in Daraa countryside

Daraa province: A child from Zimrin village near Al-Sanamayn city, north of Daraa, was killed, and other children were injured by the explosion of an old projectile while playing on agricultural land.

This comes in light of the inaction by local authorities and organisations to remove the remnants of war scattered over a large swath of Syrian territory.

Accordingly, SOHR has documented the death of 21 civilians, including a woman and 15 children, due to explosions of old landmines, unexploded shells and bombs across Syria since early 2023. In addition, over 27 civilians, including 15 children and three women, sustained various injuries in the same period.

The casualties are distributed regionally as follows:

• Areas controlled by Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham and opposition factions in Idlib:
Two fatalities; a man, a child, and one injured child.

• Regime-controlled areas: 16 fatalities, including 11 children and a woman, and 14 injured civilians, including seven children and two women.

• “Euphrates Shield” area in east Aleppo countryside: One fatality, a child, and six injured people, including five children.

• SDF-held areas: Two fatalities; two children and six injured civilians, including two children.
