SOHR: At least eleven Syrian military personnel killed after two attacks in northwestern Syria
At least eleven Syrian military personnel were killed Wednesday following two attacks in Idlib province in northwestern Syria by the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), a coalition of militias that includes former fighters of al Nusra Front, the defunct Syrian al Qaeda affiliate.
The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, with informants in the Arab country, said the first attack killed eight military personnel, including a commander, at a headquarters on the Kafroma front.
The second attack, carried out by snipers from an HTS brigade, has claimed the lives of three servicemen in Kafr Nabl in the southern countryside of Idlib, the agency said. At the moment, Syrian official media have not reported such attacks.
HTS is the most relevant armed group in Idlib province, which remains outside the control of the Syrian authorities. There are also several armed groups operating in Idlib that are supported by Turkey, which has also deployed military in this province.
