Summarization of January | Ten civilians kil-led and injured by Turkish Jandarma

Turkish Border Guards forces “Jandarma” committed violations against the civilians, especially those seeking safe haven after the deterioration of commercial and security conditions in Syria, where bullets of the Jandarma still claim the lives of more Syrians in different areas of Syria.

Accordingly, SOHR activists have documented the death of six civilians by the Turkish Border Guards “Jandarma” and the injury of two women.

The details are summarized as follows:
• On January 3: A civilian from Al-Tabany town in western Deir Ezzor countryside was shot dead by Turkish Jandarma, while he was sneaking into Turkish territory with the help of members of the 20th Division of Ahrar Al-Sharqiyah, near Ras Al-Ain town in Al-Hasakah countryside.

• On January 3: A civilian from Ras Al-Ain area, north of Al-Hasakah was shot dead by Turkish border guards “Jandarma,” while trying to enter Turkish territory, marking the second victim killed by Jandarma in 2023.

• On January 9: A young man from Shahrnaz village in the western Hama countryside was shot dead by Turkish border guards “Jandarma” while trying to cross the border to enter Turkish territory via “smuggling” routes near A’zmarin town, north of Idlib.

• On January 10: Turkish border guards “Jandarma” severely beat Syrians using rifles, sticks and kicks, after crossing the Syrian-Turkish border via “smuggling” routes at A’radah village in the northern countryside of Abu Rasin. The Syrians were transferred to Al-Darbasiyah clinic for treatment.
• On January 13: An unidentified young man was shot dead by members of the Turkish border guards “Jandarma”, while he was passing the Syrian-Turkish borders from Al-Raiy area within “Euphrates Shield” area in northern Aleppo countryside.

• On January 23: One young man was killed, and two women were injured by Turkish border guard “Jandarma” shooting at a group of civilians. Jandarma forces also severely beat two women using sticks and kicks, west of Ras Al-Ain, north-west of Al-Hasakah, after attempted to cross the Syrian border towards Turkish territory in Al-Aziza village, west of Ras Al-Ain in “Peace Spring” areas, north-west of Al-Hasakah.

• On January 28: A young man in his 30s from Bokros Tahtani town eastern of Deir Ezzor, was shot dead by the Turkish border guards “Jandarma”, while he was heading towards Turkish territory from the side of Ras Al-Ain city northern of Al-Raqqa.
