After less than 15 days | Child dies by partial collapse of a building in Aleppo following crisis of “Al-Shaikh Maqsoud” neighbourhood

Aleppo province: A child died under a collapsing building in Al-Fardous neighbourhood in Aleppo.

According to reliable SOHR sources, the abandoned building collapsed as its wood was stolen.

This comes after less than 15 days from the incident of the collapsing building in Al-Shaikh Maqsoud.

On January 22, a residential building composed of five floors in “Maarof” area in Al-Shaikh Maqsoud neighbourhood in Aleppo city collapsed, leaving 19 people dead: Nine children, six women and four men, in addition to two people injured.

On January 22, SOHR activists reported that the building was constructed in 2011 following the withdrawal of regime forces from the neighbourhood and due to the lack of administration and oversight bodies, the building was constructed in non-compliance with specifications, and over time, the majority of sewerage and water pipelines were cracked, causing the building to crack and collapse.

The sources noted that there were a number of other buildings threatened with collapse due to cracking for the same reasons cited, amid negligence of the district municipality despite numerous complaints by residents.
