Demanding immediate support | Areas of northern and western of Syria appeal the international community
Ghanim Al-Khalil, who is the head of the Public Affairs office in the Health Directorate in Idlib, informed SOHR on the conditions in north western of Syria as a result of the catastrophic earthquake that left thousands of people dead, and explained the hundreds of families are still under the rubbles with lack of logistic capabilities to recover the people from under the rubbles, coinciding with the harsh cold weather and attempts by rescue teams to find more survivors in a race with time.
Al-Khalil appealed the international community and free countries to direct support directly without mediators to areas of northern and western of Syria.
The head of the Public Affairs in the Health Directorate in Idlib explained that the weak infrastructure escalated the tragical condition, where the attention was only directed towards Turkey, coinciding with international community ignoring Syria and not responding to the conditions in north western of Syria.
He added: “The statistics reported the death of 1,610 people and the injury of over 9,000 people in Idlib alone.. it is a humanitarian tragedy.”
He called for providing immediate medical support to the Health Directorate in Idlib to evacuate the people and save those stuck under the rubbles by providing medicine, explaining that every second of delay is the potential cause of the death of an innocent civilian.
The Health Directorate in Idlib formed a crisis management team and a hotline to support those affected. However, these efforts were not sufficient with the escalation of the condition.
