New earthquake | Violent earthquake damages buildings leaving casualties in Syria

A violent earthquake hit southern of Turkey and areas in the Syrian north, causing the collapse of a cracked house in Jinderes in Afrin countryside and the damage of parts of buildings in Al-Atareb, leaving more than 42 civilians injured after they jumped from over the buildings and from windows. Moreover, stones fell in Salqin, Harim, Bosnya, Idlib, Khirbat Al-Jouz, Aleppo and Jabala.

Meanwhile in regime-held areas, damaged buildings collapsed in Al-Maydan and Al-Jamiliya neighbourhoods in Aleppo, and other buildings collapsed in Hama, leaving injuries due to the fall of stones over civilians near these buildings, while the ambulances rushed to the site.

A few hours ago, SOHR activists reported that the number of Syrian people killed due to the earthquake in Syria reached 6,689, as well as the injury of 13,000 others, some seriously. The fatalities are distributed as follows:

  • 2,221 people in regime-controlled areas.

  • 4,468 people in areas controlled by the “Salvation Government” and the “Syrian Interim Government.”

On the other hand, the bodies of 1,787 Syrian people, who were killed in Turkey due to the violent earthquake, were transported from Turkey and buried in Syrian territory. Those bodies were transported to Syria via border crossings, and they are distributed as follows:

  • 1,564 bodies were transported through Bab Al-Hawa crossing.

  • 166 bodies were transported through Bab Al-Salama crossing.

  • 22 bodies were transported through Al-Ra’i crossing.

  • 20 bodies were transported through Jarabulus crossing.

  • 15 bodies were transported through Al-Hamam crossing in Jendires countryside.

Accordingly, the number of Syrians, who were killed due to earthquake in Syria and Turkey and buried in Syrian territory, increased to 8,476.

The total death toll does not include victims whose relatives buried them in Syrian territory shortly after the earthquake, even before the arrival of rescue teams.

It is worth noting that over 123 residential complexes, villages, towns and cities across Syria, including 52 villages and towns in regime-controlled areas in south Aleppo countryside, east Idlib countryside and north Hama countryside, sustained considerable damage by the earthquake. Meanwhile, the hundreds of fatalities remain under rubble in these areas as rescue teams have failed so far to reach several areas, amid media blackout.
