Death toll update | 15 Syrians seeking safe haven in Europe die in a sunken boat near Libyan coasts

Rescue teams have retrieved more bodies of those who drowned in the Mediterranean sea, while they were seeking safe haven in countries of the European Union.

Accordingly, the number of Syrian people who died in the sunken boat has risen to 15, who are:
• 12 people from Kobani
• Three people from Ikbis Square in Rajo district in Afrin
According to reliable SOHR sources, the boat was carrying nearly 25 people, and it sank while trying to move the victims from a small boat to a bigger boat before heading to Italy.

Yesterday, Rescue teams retrieved the bodies of two children from Kobani city, while their parents remain missing, after a boat for refugees have sunk near the coasts of Tobrak city in Libya on March 2.

Meanwhile, nearly 25 refugees, mostly Syrian, are still missing including three civilians from Ain Al-Arab (Kobani) and Syrian women and children.

According to reliable SOHR sources, the boat set off from Libyan coasts towards Italy. However, the boat sank for unknown reasons.

Despite the dangers that face the Syrians, who seek safe haven, on their way towards European countries via “death boats”, many Syrians still resort to emigration overseas in search for a better life and a better reality, putting them in danger.
