De*ath toll update | Three non-Syrians among seven people ki*lled in expl*osion in Iranian-backed militias’ warehouse in Deir Ezzor city

Deir Ezzor province: SOHR sources have reported that the number of people who were killed in today’s explosion, which hit a warehouse affiliated to Iranian-backed militias in a residential neighbourhood in Deir Ezzor city, has increased to seven: three Syrians, three non-Syrians and an unidentified man. The explosion, which coincided with flights by drones, also left 15 people injured.

Hospitals in the city called for blood donation because of the large number of injured people, amid unconfirmed reports of more fatalities.

Earlier today, SOHR sources confirmed that the explosion which had hit Deir Ezzor city this morning was caused by an attack which targeted a building affiliated to Iranian-backed militias behind the cholera hospital in Al-Hemaydiyah neighbourhood. Uncertainty is still surrounding the circumstances of the attack which coincided with flight of drones over the region.

The explosion resulted in the death of four people and injury of eight others, including the driver of a truck carrying gas cylinders, which was parked near the targeted building.

Earlier today, SOHR sources reported hearing a loud explosion of unknown origin, which hit the area of the Iranian hospital in Al-Hemaydiyah neighbourhood, where plumes of smoke were seen in the city which is controlled by regime forces and Iranian-backed militias. Iranian-backed militias have cordoned the site where the explosion took place, while ambulances were seen rushing to the site.

SOHR activists documented the death of 16 Iranian-backed Syrian and non-Syrian militiamen in aerial and ground attacks in Syria in February 2023.

Yesterday, SOHR sources reported that Iranian-backed Afghan “Liwaa Fatemiyoun” deployed four artillery pieces and hided them among palm trees in an orchard in the vicinity of Al-Mayadeen city, “the capital of Iranian-backed militias in Syria,” after rehabilitating them.
