Searching for truffle | Landmine explosion injures nine civilians in Deir Ezzor desert

Deir Ezzor province: SOHR sources have reported that nine truffle pickers sustained various injuries due to the explosion of an old landmine in Al-Barouk area in the southern desert of Deir Ezzor. The victims, who are from Al-Beghayliyah village in Deir Ezzor countryside, were taken to the hospital in Deir Ezzor city.

 

Accordingly, SOHR has documented the death of 65 civilians, including two women and 20 children, due to explosions of old landmines, unexploded shells and bombs across Syria since early 2023. In addition, over 136 civilians, including 32 children and four women, sustained various injuries.

 

The casualties are distributed regionally as follows:

 

  • Areas controlled by Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham and opposition factions in Idlib: Three fatalities; including a child, and five injured civilians, including three children.

 

  • Regime-controlled areas: 58 fatalities, including 15 children and two women, and 115 injured civilians, including 18 children and three women. There are 30 truffle pickers died, including a child and a woman, and 82 others injured.

 

  • “Euphrates Shield” area in east Aleppo countryside: One fatality, a child, and six injured people: a woman and five children.

 

  • SDF-held areas: Three fatalities; three children, and eight injured civilians, including three children. There is a little truffle picker among the injured people.

 

  • “Peace Spring” area in north Al-Raqqah countryside: Two injured civilians, two children.
