Ongoing violations in Afrin | “National Army” factions continue felling trees and seizing civilian properties

Aleppo province: SOHR sources have reported that members of Al-Sham Corps felled nearly 50 olive trees, some partially, in Basofan village in Shirawa district in Afrin countryside in the north-western countryside of Aleppo to sell them as fire logs.

Meanwhile, members of Al-Hamzah Division felled nearly 25 olive trees in Maarata village in Afrin countryside, in full view of Turkish forces and checkpoints of the “National Army” which are deployed on the outskirts of the village, for selling them as fire logs.

On the other hand, A member of the military police sold a house in Al-Ashrafiyah neighbourhood in Afrin city for 1,000 USD. The member also obtained a construction permission to build a house of two rooms, before he sold it for 800 USD.

Similarly, a member of Al-Hamzah Division sold a house in Al-Ashrafiyah neighbourhood in Afrin city for 1,400 USD, after having expelled a displaced man from eastern Ghouta, who was renting the house. Another member of the same faction sold three houses in Al-Ashrafiyah neighbourhood for 750 USD a house.

Furthermore, a civilian from Kakherah village in Afrin countryside gave 1,500 USD to a former member of “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah” from Aleppo city to take back his house.

Also, members of Al-Hamzah division took over a basement used as a workshop for manufacturing cloths and looted all equipment in the workshop by force under the pretext that the son of the workshop’s owner “worked for Syrian Democratic Forces.”

SOHR sources have also reported that a civilian from Maydana village in Raju district was blocked by an armed group near Al-Qabtan roundabout in Afrin city centre, where the armed group took over the civilian’s money and mobile phone. According to SOHR sources, checkpoints of the “National Army” and military police are deployed a few metres away from the place where the incident took place. However, the members stationed at these checkpoint did lift a finger.
