Old ordnance | Landmine explosion injures child in Deir Ezzor countryside

Deir Ezzor province: SOHR sources have reported that a little boy sustained serious injuries and second-degree burns, after having been hit with shrapnel of an old land mine which exploded in Ayyash village in Deir Ezzor, which is controlled by regime forces and Iranian-backed militias.

 

Accordingly, SOHR has documented the death of 75 civilians, including two women and 25 children, due to explosions of old landmines, unexploded shells and bombs across Syria since early 2023. In addition, over 146 civilians, including 39 children and four women, sustained various injuries.

 

The casualties are distributed regionally as follows:

 

  • Areas controlled by Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham and opposition factions in Idlib: Three fatalities; including a child, and five injured civilians, including three children.

 

  • Regime-controlled areas: 67 fatalities, including 19 children and three women, and 122 injured civilians, including 22 children and three women. There are 32 truffle pickers died, including a child and two women, and 82 others injured.

 

  • “Euphrates Shield” area in east Aleppo countryside: One fatality, a child, and eight injured people: a woman and seven children.

 

  • SDF-held areas: Three fatalities; three children, and ten injured civilians, including six children. There is a little truffle picker among the injured people.

 

  • “Peace Spring” area in north Al-Raqqah countryside: A child was killed and another was injured.
