Abandoned new-born babies | Baby boy found on pavement in Al-Raqqah

Al-Raqqah province: SOHR sources have reported a new-born baby was found yesterday on a pavement in Al-Sena’a neighbourhood in the SDF-controlled city of Al-Raqqah.

This comes in light of the escalating rate of cases of abandoned new-born babies, which is attributed to many reasons, mainly the deteriorating living conditions and illegal relationships.

SOHR has documented 19 cases of abandoned new-born babies in all zones of influence throughout Syria since early 2023; they are distributed as follows:

  • Regime-controlled areas: seven cases.

  • SDF-controlled areas: 11 cases.

  • Areas controlled by Turkish-backed factions: One case.
