Fifth attack in March | Israeli strikes target positions of Iranian-backed militias south of Damascus

Israel renewed their attacks on Syrian land for the fifth time in March, as it targeted positions of Iranian-backed militias in south of the Syrian capital Damascus with missiles in the early hours of Thursday morning, where violent explosions were heard in Kafarsousah area and Al-Midan neighbourhood, amid outbreak of fires near the southern highway in the capital. The regime air defences tried to intercept the missiles.

 

The strikes resulted in the destruction of at least one position of the militias, amid information about causalities in their ranks, and the injury of members of the regime.

 

It is noted that this is the seventh attack targeting Syrian territory since early 2023.

 

On February 19, SOHR reported that Israeli missiles were fired on positions holding Iranian militias and Lebanese Hezbollah militias in an area between Al-Saida Zainab and Al-Diyaba in Rif Dimashq causing fire to break out and explosions in the targeted area, in addition to an Iranian school in Kafr Sosa causing the collapse of a building and casualties.

 

Moreover, a missile hit Al-Mazra’a Square, amid reports of the death of a woman.

 

Al-Radar battalion was targeted in Tel Masih southern of Shuhabaa in Al-Suwaydaa.

 

The attack resulted in the death of 15 people in the basement of a building in Kafarsousa, the fatalities are: Two civilians including a woman, seven regime soldiers including three officers and a companion of the leader of Al-Baath brigades, five unidentified people and a member in military wing of the Lebanese “Hezbollah” milita.

 

On January 17, SOHR sources reported that Iran works to install Iranian-made air defence batteries in Syria. For more details, air defence batteries will be installed at nearly three locations south and south-west of Damascus, and near Damascus International Airport.
