SOHR: Israel Kills Iranian Guards Officer in Syria Strike

An Israeli attack near Damascus in Syria on Friday resulted in the death of a military adviser and officer of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Milad Haydari.

The Guards released a statement reported by Iranian media, saying that “the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced the martyrdom of guardsman Milad Haydari, one of the IRGC’s military advisers and officers,” as a result of the Israeli attack.

This marks the second strike by Israel in two days in Syria, indicating an increasing effort to counter Tehran’s foothold in the country. Israel typically declines to comment on reports of strikes in Syria, and there was no immediate statement from them regarding this attack, according to Reuters.

The Guards vowed to respond to the “criminal attack” and stated that it would not go “unanswered,” as reported by the semi-official Iranian news outlet Tasnim.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed the incident and noted this air strike was the sixth attack by Israel in Syria this month.

For years, Israel has been carrying out attacks against what it describes as Iran-linked targets in Syria. Tehran’s influence in the country has been growing since it began supporting President Bashar al-Assad in the civil war that began in 2011.
