Searching for “truffle” | Civilian di*es and others inj*ured in expl*osion of land*mine in Palmyra

A civilian of “Al-Omor” tribe died and others were injured due to the explosion of a landmine of war remnants, while collecting “truffle” in Palmyra desert in eastern Homs countryside.

Accordingly, SOHR has documented the death of 122 civilians, including nine women and 30 children, due to explosions of old landmines, unexploded shells and bombs across Syria since early 2023. In addition, over 176 civilians, including 47 children and four women, sustained various injuries.

The casualties are distributed regionally as follows:

• Areas controlled by Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham and opposition factions in Idlib: Three fatalities; including a child, and five injured civilians, including three children.

• Regime-controlled areas: 111 fatalities, including 22 children and nine women, and 150 injured civilians, including 29 children and three women. There are 59 truffle pickers died, including two children and six women, and 98 others injured.

• “Euphrates Shield” area in east Aleppo countryside: Three fatality, three children, and eight injured people: a woman and seven children.

• SDF-held areas: Four fatalities, including three children, and 12 injured civilians, including seven children. There is a little truffle picker among the injured people.

• “Peace Spring” area in north Al-Raqqah countryside: A child was killed and another was injured.
