Unprecedented escalation | 52 people killed and wounded in 15 attacks by Turkish drones in north and east Syria in 12 days

The renewed military escalation on areas controlled by the Autonomous Administration and areas where Kurdish forces are deployed seems to be one of the top priorities of the Turkish president “Receb Tayyip Erdogan” on his new presidential term regarding Syria’s affairs. As soon as the presidential elections had been over in late May, Turkish drones started a new campaign of military escalation in Syrian territory.

 

SOHR activists have documented 15 attacks by Turkish drones since June 2, where these attacks left 24 people dead and 28 others injured. The Turkish drone attacks in Syria in the period from June 2 until today, June 16 are distributed as follows:

 

-Areas where Kurdish and regime forces are deployed in north Aleppo countryside: six attacks left eight people dead and 11 others injured; they are as follows:

 

• Three members of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) were killed and two others were injured.

 

• Five members of regime forces, including an officer, were killed and nine other soldiers were injured.

 

-Areas controlled by the Autonomous Administration (SDF-controlled areas): nine attacks left 16 people dead and ten others injured; the fatalities are distributed as follows:

 

• One civilian.

 

• 15 combatants of formations operating in SDF-controlled areas.

 

Here is a regional distribution of Turkish drone attacks in SDF-controlled areas:

 

• Al-Raqqah countryside: One attack left no fatalities.

 

• Al-Hasakah countryside: One attack left four members of SDF-backed formations dead.

 

• Aleppo countryside: Seven attacks left one civilian and 11 members of SDF-backed formations dead.

 

Further details of Turkish drone attacks in Syria in June can be summarised as follows:

 

• June 2: A Turkish drone attacked a vehicle carrying a commander of “Manbij Military Council Forces” nearby the Russian base in Al-Arimah area in western Manbij in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, killing him immediately.

 

• June 2: A Turkish reconnaissance armed drone attacked a group of workers in Aslim village in Ain Issa district near M4 highway in northern Al-Raqqah, injuring a man and his wife.

 

• June 12: A Turkish drone attacked a motorcycle near a petrol station in Ain Al-Arab city (Kobani) in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, killing two combatants of military formations operating in SDF-controlled areas and injuring five civilians.

 

• June 13: An SDF fighter was killed and three other commanders were injured in an attack by a Turkish drone near Qarrah Qozaq bridge in the eastern countryside of Aleppo.

 

• June 13: A Turkish armed drone attacked a checkpoint of “Manbij Military Council Forces” in Daraj village, killing a member stationed at the checkpoint.

 

• June 14: Four members of “Manbij Military Council Forces” were killed and two others were injured seriously in a drone attack on Al-Dandaniyah village in Manbij countryside.

 

• June 14: A civilian was killed in a drone attack on a house near Arab Hassan area which controlled by “Manbij Military Council” in Manbij countryside.

 

• June 14: Four SDF commanders were killed and three combatants were injured in a drone attack on Al-Qamishli-Al-Malikiyah highway in Al-Hasakah countryside.

 

• June 14: Two members of the SDF-backed “Manbij Military Council Forces” were killed in a drone attack on military post in Al-Sayyad village in Manbij countryside in eastern Aleppo.

 

• June 10: Three members of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), including a commander, were killed and two other members, including a female fighter, were injured, as a Turkish drone attacked a military vehicle in Ahdath town in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

 

• June 13: A regime officer and two soldiers were injured in a Turkish drone attack on a regime tank on the frontline of Baylouniyah frontline in the northern countryside of Aleppo. The attack also damaged the tank. The injured people were taken to Tel Rifaat hospital.

 

• June 13: A Turkish kamikaze drone attacked a regime military post on the frontline of Tanab village in Shirawa district in Afrin countryside in north-western Aleppo, which caused material damage only.

 

• June 13: A Turkish armed drone attacked a Russian base in Al-Wahshiyah village in the northern countryside of Aleppo, in areas where Kurdish and regime forces are deployed, which caused material damage only.

 

• June 14: Five regime soldiers were killed and six others were injured seriously in a drone attack on a regime military post on Ain Daqnah frontline in areas where Kurdish and regime forces are deployed in north Aleppo countryside.
