Attempting to reach Turkey | Boy drowns in Al-Assi river on the Syria border with Iskenderun region

Idlib province: SOHR sources have reported that the body of a 17-year-old boy was found in Al-Assi river near Al-Alani village, nearly four days after he had gone missing. The boy drowned while he was attempting to cross the river to reach Turkey, seeking a safe haven.

Many Syrian families have found themselves obligated to send their children to Turkey for work and seek a safe haven away from the protracted war in their homeland and to secure their and their families’ needs, disregarding the growing anti-Syrian sentiment in Turkey.

On July 6, the body of a 17-year-old child, who drowned in Al-Assi river, was retrieved and delivered to his family, after two days of searching. The dead child was trying to cross the river into Turkey from Ghazalah town near Darkush town in western Idlib countryside.
