Leaving casualties | Israeli airstrikes target weapons warehouse, headquarters and posts of Hezbollah and Iranian-backed militias nearby Damascus
Reliable SOHR sources have reported that Israel executed new airstrikes in the early hours of Friday morning, targeting a weapons warehouse belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah in Al-Bahdaliyah area on the road to Damascus international airport, headquarters and posts of Hezbollah and Iranian-backed militias in the vicinity of Sayeda Zeinab area and farms surrounding Damascus international airport and the centre of the management of the electronic warfare.
The Israeli attack left two Iranian-backed non-Syrian militiamen dead and others injured, some seriously, as well as causing fires and material damage to the targeted sites.
SOHR documented 52 attacks in 2023: 37 airstrikes and 15 rocket attacks by ground forces, during which Israel targeted several positions in Syria, destroying nearly 109 targets, including buildings, weapons and ammunitions warehouses, headquarters, centres and vehicles. These strikes killed 98 combatants and injured 117 others. The fatalities are distributed as follows:
- 40 members of regime forces, including officers.
- 33 Iranian-backed non-Syrian militiamen.
- Six members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
- Four Iranian-backed Syrian militiamen.
- 13 members of the Lebanese Hezbollah.
- Two members of “Al-Jihad Al-Islami” organisation.
In addition, those attacks left three men and a woman dead and other civilians injured.
The attacks are distributed regionally as follows:
- Damascus and Rif Dimashq: 17 attacks.
- Al-Quneitera: eight attacks.
- Hama: two attacks.
- Tartus: three attacks.
- Aleppo: eight attacks.
- Al-Suwaidaa: four attacks.
- Daraa: 11 attacks.
- Homs: four attacks.
- Deir Ezzor: two attacks.
SOHR would like to point out that Israel sometimes targeted more than one province in a single attack.
