Since beginning of brutal offensive on Gaza | 22 attacks by Israeli forces in Syrian territory leave 26 civilians and combatants dead
Israel has escalated their attacks in Syrian territory to unprecedented level since the beginning of the brutal offensive on Gaza in October, where SOHR has documented 22 attacks: 15 airstrikes and seven rocket attacks by ground forces. Those attacks left 26 fatalities; they are as follows:
- Two civilians
- 14 Syrian combatants, including four officers.
- Ten Iranian-backed non-Syrian militiamen.
The Israeli attacks in Syria during the period between October 10 and November 22 also destroyed 32 targets, including weapons warehouses, centres and vehicles. It is worth noting that four airstrikes hit Aleppo international airport, which led to putting it out of service on the four occasions, while two other airstrikes hit Damascus international airport, which led to putting it out of service on the two occasions.
SOHR documented 54 attacks in 2023: 39 airstrikes and 15 rocket attacks by ground forces, during which Israel targeted several positions in Syria, destroying nearly 110 targets, including buildings, weapons and ammunitions warehouses, headquarters, centres and vehicles. These strikes killed 98 combatants and injured 117 others. The fatalities are distributed as follows:
- 40 members of regime forces, including officers.
- 33 Iranian-backed non-Syrian militiamen.
- Six members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
- Four Iranian-backed Syrian militiamen.
- 13 members of the Lebanese Hezbollah.
- Two members of “Al-Jihad Al-Islami” organisation.
In addition, those attacks left three men and a woman dead and other civilians injured.
The attacks are distributed regionally as follows:
- Damascus and Rif Dimashq: 18 attacks.
- Al-Quneitera: eight attacks.
- Hama: two attacks.
- Tartus: three attacks.
- Aleppo: eight attacks.
- Al-Suwaidaa: four attacks.
- Daraa: 11 attacks.
- Homs: four attacks.
- Deir Ezzor: two attacks.
SOHR would like to point out that Israel sometimes targeted more than one province in a single attack.
