Ongoing attacks | Israel attacks Syria on 60 occasions in 2023, killing 110 combatants, including 20 members of Lebanese Hezbollah

Israel continues to violate Syria’s sovereignty through escalating its aerial and ground attacks on military positions, weapons warehouses, trucks, international airports and military headquarters. Meanwhile, the recent attacks were concentrated on combatants of the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian-backed Syrian and non-Syrian militiamen.

Yesterday, an Israeli drone attacked a taxi in Al-Baath city in Al-Quneitra province, killing a Syrian man and three Lebanese members of Hezbollah, while their bodies were charred.

SOHR documented 60 attacks in 2023: 43 airstrikes and 17 rocket attacks by ground forces, during which Israel targeted several positions in Syria, destroying nearly 121 targets, including buildings, weapons and ammunitions warehouses, headquarters, centres and vehicles. These strikes killed 110 combatants and injured 125 others. The fatalities are distributed as follows:

  • 40 members of regime forces, including officers.

  • 35 Iranian-backed non-Syrian militiamen.

  • Six members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

  • Seven Iranian-backed Syrian militiamen.

  • 20 members of the Lebanese Hezbollah.

  • Two members of “Al-Jihad Al-Islami” organisation.

In addition, those attacks left three men and a woman dead and other civilians injured.

The attacks are distributed regionally as follows:

  • Damascus and Rif Dimashq: 23 attacks.

  • Al-Quneitera: ten attacks.

  • Hama: two attacks.

  • Tartus: three attacks.

  • Aleppo: eight attacks.

  • Al-Suwaidaa: four attacks.

  • Daraa: 11 attacks.

  • Homs: four attacks.

  • Deir Ezzor: two attacks.

SOHR would like to point out that Israel sometimes targeted more than one province in a single attack.
