Extreme weather | Camps and lands flooded by rainfalls and water level of Al-A’asy River rises

The water level of Al-A’asy River in western Idlib rose after the dams were opened in regime-held areas, causing the flooding of civilians’ houses in Darkoush City and agricultural lands in Jisr Al-Shughour, Darkoush, Azmarin and Taloul area near Salqin City.

Al-A’asy River flows in Homs, Hama and Idlib provinces, where several storage dams were built on the river.

Rivers and streams flooded in the areas of Al-Zouf, Al-Hamboushiyah, Ain Al-Baida, and Khirbet Al-Jouz in western Idlib countryside, following heavy rainfall that continued for days.

Dozens of tents in camps of Idlib countryside were destroyed due to the heavy rainfall and floods, where the level of Al-Zouf River was raised in Jisr Al-Shughour countryside, causing major damages to residents of the camps and the flooding of more than 20 people and the displacements of their residents.

Moreover, the watercourse overflowed in Khirbat Al-Jouz in western of Jisr Al-Shughour, causing major damages to the displacement tents in Al-Ansar and Kabana Camps near borders between Syria and Turkey.

Most of the north western area and the coastal area in Syria were subjected to changing climate with medium to heavy rainfall, where the weather forecast warned of the formation of floods in some areas.
