After power stations having been destroyed in Turkish attacks | Total blackout hits Al-Hasakah city for sixth consecutive day

For six days, residents in Al-Hasakah city have suffered from power outage, after electricity feeding the city from Al-Tabaqah dam was transferred to feed the area stretching from Al-Darabsiyah to Al-Qamishli and Al-Malikiyah. The recently-transferred electricity covers the needs of bread bakeries, water wells and hospitals.

This comes as a by-product of the latest round of Turkish attacks, which destroyed power institutions and led to total power outage in this region.

The latest power outage has contributed in worsening the humanitarian situation in the region, especially with the freezing temperatures and the residents’ need of electricity for heating.

Speaking to SOHR, a civilian known by his initials as R. M. said “what do the Turkish authorities need from us? They have destroyed everything. When you get out of your home, you see crises and long lines everywhere. Tens of vehicles wait for long hours in front of petrol stations in order to get some diesel. Electricity and household gas are not available. We want to live in peace. We feel fed up with the war. We call for putting an end to the Turkish attacks and rehabilitating service institutions.”

Another woman known as H. F. told SOHR “the situation in Al-Hasakah city continues to deteriorate and has become out of control. Electricity is not available and power generators have been deactivated due to the lack of fuels. We face a new humanitarian disaster. The situation in the city is unbearable.”

Residents in north and east Syria are struggling with tragic situation following the latest Turkish attacks which destroyed infrastructure and vital civilian institutions; this, in turn, has led to deteriorating living conditions and looms of a new humanitarian disaster.
