First attack in Banyas | Israeli airstrikes on villa in the outskirts of the city leave three fatalities

Tartus province: SOHR sources have confirmed that an Iranian commander and two others escorts of non-Syrian nationalities were killed in Israeli airstrikes on a villa in Batarayah area in the southern outskirts of Banyas city. The attack caused large damage to the targeted villa and several surrounding homes.

The attack also left several civilians injured, where people woke up at around 04:00 AM today, because of the sound of powerful explosions, which triggered a state of panic among people.

It is worth noting that this attack is the first of its kind in Banyas city.

Since the beginning of 2024, SOHR has documented 20 Israeli attacks on the Syrian territory: 14 airstrikes and six rocket attacks by ground forces. Those attacks destroyed nearly 39 targets, including weapons and ammunitions warehouses, headquarters, centres and vehicles.

The Israeli attacks left 41 combatants dead and 19 others injured. The fatalities are distributed as follows:

  • Ten Iranian-backed Syrian militiamen.

  • Seven Iranian-backed non-Syrian militiamen.

  • Seven members of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

  • Nine members of the Lebanese Hezbollah.

  • Three Iraqi persons.

  • Five unidentified persons.

In addition, nine civilians, including a woman, were killed in the Israeli strikes.

The attacks are distributed as follows:

  • Damascus and Rif Dimashq: Ten attacks.

  • Daraa: Five attacks.

  • Homs: Three attacks.

  • Al-Qunaitrah: One attack.

  • Tartus: One attack.

SOHR would like to point out that Israel sometimes targeted more than one province in a single attack.
